Coastal Road Trip

Over the weekend my sisters and I packed our bags, jumped in a rental car and headed north for a bit of an unconventional birthday celebration. It seems that we’ve all rediscovered our love for the outdoors at about the same point in our life and have been spending all of our recent time together hiking, exploring, and admiring nature. We realized the last time the three of us went on a trip together was when we were forced to relocate to our grandmother’s house in Arizona after the 1994 earthquake, so suffice to say it was long overdue and completely wonderful.

We drove straight up to Carmel just in time to watch the sun set in the most beautiful pastel hues and spent the next two days eating well and covering a lot of mileage on bike and foot. We made our way as far as we could along the 17-mile scenic drive to Pebble Beach and hiked through Point Lobos stopping every 15 seconds for one jaw-dropping view after another. We managed to avoid the huge storm passing through on our way down the {very windy} Highway 1 and hit Big Sur for one last hike amidst the redwoods.

We talked about how being outdoors exploring makes you feel like the kid you were 20+ years ago digging through the dirt in the backyard, and how that part of you never really changes no matter how old you get. It was definitely the most fun I’ve had in recent memory and as cheesy as it may sound, made me realize that sisters are really the ultimate best friends.

Sidenote: This was my first time attempting to make and edit a video and have a newfound appreciation for those who do. Certainly something on the 2013 goal list!
